Whispers-n-Feathers

Quail. Two flocks of those silly birds live here. I especially love their little hangy-down, forehead feathers. (Yes, I am sure that is the official name.)

This is what I spied the other day. From what I could hear, mister quail did all the talking. You can click each image for a better view of the quail couple's escapade.

While standing at the puddle edge, mister quail forms an idea.

He invites mrs. quail for a night on the town
--after whispering tweet nothings in her ear.

Follow me hon!
Yes, you need to get out from behind the tree.
No, they don't care how you are dressed,
really.

What did i tell ya?
this jive is jumping!

Let's flap
and dance.

Yes, ma'am, it's okay
to shake
your
tail-feathers!

...later on mrs. quail whispers her own
tweet nothings in his ear

Of course they know just how
to maneuver around those hangy-down, forehead feathers.

These are so funny ... amidst the flock of robins in the snow. I liked the thistle courtship as well.

I just can't BEGIN to tell you how much I loved this little photo story. It reminded me of one of my favorite childhood books, "That Quail, Robert." And you got such GREAT photos of them!

Love those robin red-breasts, too : )

Full of Play - playfulness gets us through. Loverby told me last night he is missing his girl from fun country. This prompted me to remember what it looks like. :)
